It is important to consider too... This is something I first heard in an Adam Curtis documentary almost two decades ago, but contemporaneous research showed he this was the case...
The United States didn't do any honest, public research into the causes of the problem of terrorism in the aftermath of 9/11 (which is a bit odd, no?) but the E.U. and U.K. DID research the subject (after the tube attacks there, which came shortly after 9/11).
What makes people become terrorists? How can we identify who is likely to become a terrorist? Answering these questions can bring us on the path to dealing with, or even preventing the problem.
They only ever identified one demographic that increased one's likelihood of being a terrorist: being a second-generation immigrant.
When they dug into that further, the reason second generation immigrants are more likely to be terrorists, is because they're more likely to hold America in contempt, to view it as evil, and to see it's destruction as a pro-social impulse...
And the root of this is, in turn, these children of immigrants, born in the USA and being culturally American, having American values, seeing their parents treated horribly by not only their neighbors and random people out in public, but horrible, in some cases, barbaric interactions, where their parents are the victims, at the hands of the system, the government, employers, other powerful institutions.
The immigrants themselves typically take such abuse in stride, but their kids typically see it as being the great evil it is.
And then, some small minority of those children of abused immigrants, go out and declare holy war against the evil that hurt their poor, kind, hard-working, good mother, and father.
If you step back and think about it, it makes sense. Of course this breeds terrorists. And, of course, detaining and SAing, abusing, sometimes torturing good people, makes us DESERVE to be terrorized.

Imagine allowing a bunch of people to come here, have 80% of them be ungrateful, when they came here illegally to begin with, all to be lectured on how poor we may treat a small percentage of them. And I say "THEM", distinguishing them from citizens. But by all means, be triggered and take it how you want!
