Honestly, fear the warriors who wear the most impractical armor. Sure, odds are they're just some dumb noble fools, but then there's that one horrifyingly skilled warrior that wears jewel-encrusted gold armor that protects nothing. Like a toxic frog, they stand out the most to warn you of their lethality. Only the brave or the foolish dare challenge them.
I think I just made a reason for nobles wearing flashy yet useless armor in fantasy settings: to pose as the warriors that do the same as a warning or challenge.
