That is surely a review Lead. You've been through those high winds, the bad storm ....this steady rain.
After Katrina we went through more storms, extremely high winds and a tornado. We had a 12x14 square tent and a smaller 10x10. The two were connected with a tarp. It was almost immediately clear that the larger tent was going to get knocked down by wind. The smaller tent was less vulnerable but still susceptible. Things hadn't been bad as far as leaking, only small leakage but certainly things were vulnerable. 2 very large heavy duty tarps were bought and one extra large extremely heavy-duty tarp, this being placed over the large tent and the two others covering that and the small tent. These were strongly tied down with rope, good knots and heavy duty stakes set deep. Our bed posts/ internal supports were 2 foot pine logs that were cut from fallen trees. We topped that with a sheet of 3/4 inch plywood and nailed it down. A turkey cooker was in each tent with the pot filled with water. One was in the main to burn on low for heat. The other in the smaller bathing and food storage tent. Shelving was salvaged from wherever we found it. Totes were used for storage in addition to the shelving. One very large tote was used for a bathtub. A hole was cut on one end about 2 inches above the bottom in the end wall. A flexible drain tube was placed in the hole and sealed around it both inside and out with pvc glue. The tote was set up on blocks and plugged during bathing. The drain tube ran outside of the tent and down the hill. Any remainder in the tub was poured into another tote and carried outside. We had no electricity but we did have running water via a long hose from a spigot. Someone was almost always at " camp" ...the outside fire being kept going around the clock...even if it was no more than coals...so there was always something to cook on or in. Bake in coals. Cook in pots/ fryers. Often we would fish the pond, pull them out, clean them and straight in the fry pan they went with a little oil or grease topped with spices and when ready...sprinkled with some lime juice.
When you are in these situations...be resourceful. Many storages were emptied and set out by the road. A lot of helpful things were salvaged that way. Survival is survival. One group of church ladies came to our camp and gifted us with a large supply of spices that I suspect they pulled from their own reserves. I was so thankful then and still to this day, 18 plus years later... I still have some of them in my cabinet....a reminder of the goodness and kindness that came out of a terrible situation. In such situations, people come together. Some don't. But most do.
We went through a tornado in that set-up. Only a small one...but a tornado nevertheless. I have wondered how your tent would fare out through a tornado or severe storms. I'm impressed so far. The tarps, tied and staked securely, will stop the billowing that I noticed happening during that last storm. That wind, once identified with danger, can be unsettling. The flare out of the canopy in this tent you have catches the wind. My set up didn't have that flare and my tarps came right down the sides and were staked down so no wind got up under them. It was critical. I've used that set-up often since then.
I've been waiting to see how this tent would hold up in bad weather and so far it's doing good. β€
