I used to take care of two budgies after their owner went to college and couldnt bring them with. After one of them died, i kept the other entertained by showim him these 10hr hour videos of big aviaries. He would interact all day with them, singing, dancing, getting angry at them. He would insist i turn his friends on as soon as he noticed i was awake. It really helped stave off lonelyness in the last few months of his life. :.)

Next step is to get them a crippling addiction to social media!

I always keep geese and chickens in groups, and this is also really important for other birds like parrots. Parrots require a lot of work to take care of, and they need social interaction, and many owners are incapable of giving them the care they need.

Not a parrot parent, but the fact that they exist HAUNTS me for this very reason. I'm so glad some folks are recognizng parrots have social needs and it's beautiful that tech can connect them like it does for us! (Nobody tell them about Twitter - for their own good).

There is certainly a level of intelligence + social needs that make some animals unsuitable to be solo pets.

How do these parrots hook up with friends? Is there an app for connecting with other parrots? Its pretty amazing that they can interact with each other even in captivity!

Great, now I can have social anxiety on behalf of my pet as well! "Wow, no call this morning. I giess my parrot must be low on their parrot's social preference list"

that's insane that both parrots and little kids can use smartphones, and some probably do it better than some adults

I have two pair of parrots, each has their own cage because they attack each other but they are kept in pairs. When one starts screaming, everyone starts screaming; when one whistles, the other sings; It's adorable.
