My take on "catastrophizing" and I've also been informed by therapists about "self-fulfilling prophesies"; those terms are absurd. It is perfectly normal to prepare for a worst case scenario to protect yourself and survive, and as far as "self-fulfilling prophesies", we have no control over what pain others choose to inflict on us. No amount of positive thinking is going to change another person's bad intime tiins toward us. So I would much prefer to be prepared emotionally for that possibility, and it turns out for the best, awesome. But to tell a person their way of thinking is responsible for what harm comes their way is just another form of victim blaming, and this is what I find absolutely abhorrent in the present day mental health field.
