Gary is my father's name and this is accurate. He's very much a narcissist according to every therapist I've ever had that he spent months screaming at while trying to convince them I'm absolutely the problem.

I had a boss who fit all three criteria. He was also a sadist who delighted in insults and turning the knife in his subordinates.

Thank you Dr. Grande for your shorts on narcissism. You have a lively fan following so I enjoy reading the comments as well. ❤️🌵😄

Unsophisticated social skills and "brute force" methods was an interesting statement. I experience this with my spouse. There's a limited menu of skills and emotional behaviors she can exhibit. You can have anything listed on the menu, no substitutions.

My ex-husband was a diagnosed grandiose npd. When I left and divorced him, he actually admitted that he knows the marriage going bad was 100% all his fault. He openly admitted on multiple occasions that he knew he was an a $hole. My mother, however, was a covert/vulnerable narc. She would never admit to anything. Once in a great while she might confess she knew she was wrong, but somebody or something else was always to blame for driving her to her actions. She could never own anything.

Witnessing first hand the adolescent reactions of my ex narcissistic husband, after I confronted and enlightened him of his ways, gave me a clear understanding of just how miserable he is inside his own skin. This gives me confidence that he'll live out the remainder of his life in struggle and misery.

Yup - that's my mother! I was 35 before I could say I'm sorry or admit I made a mistake. If my mother yelling at you didn't get you in line, she wasn't afraid of hauling off and hitting you.

My older sister is a Narcissist, I'm always wrong. I accidentally once said everyone has faults. To my surprise, just saying that upset her.

Gotta be the parents that taught this. To be ashamed of failure is sad. Everyone fails sometimes as we aren’t perfect.

I have my brother who is a Gary. He alone has ruined our family and is a bona-fide devil. And I, despite being 8 years older than him, am his favourite subject to abuse in every way.

1. To maintain power 2. Perfectionism 3. Avoiding shame

They think they're perfect and can do no wrong of course and go into a scary raging toddler fit when mathematically/scientifically proven wrong. My parents are the perfect example especially my dad. I can't even express a different opinion without automatically being wrong.

It boggles my mind that there are people who think they are perfect and never make mistakes. I mean…how? All the thoughts in my own head are self doubts…so it’s just so hard to imagine feeling like god’s gift to everyone.
