Consider you produce melatonin in your mitochondria when exposed to near infrared light.
Perhaps people taking vitamin D get less sun light since they dont need it for vit D, resulting in lower melatonin.
Or maybe thise taking are concious of light exposure, making more melatonin on a cellular level, which makes their pineal gland produc less.
Or a multitude of other potential confounders.

I take 5000iu of vitamin d along with my dinner which always has pasture raised eggs included in my dinner (has a good dose of vitamin k2). Yes I eat typical breakfast items at dinner and vise versa. I also take 1mg of melatonin, 1/4th tsp magnesium glycinate, creatine, 2tbsp ACV and my mushroom complex with dinner too 2-3hrs before bed. Never had a problem with sleep and my dinner has the most carbs. Probably the best sleep I ever had and I'm a full time night owl (sleep during the day).

VitaminD is tied to processes related to sun protection. It makes sense to take it during the day.
