First long hike this year and my blood sugars were dropping below 80 mg/dl 35-min into the hike. What would you have done, when do you react?

Would definitely eat a rice crispie treat and take a break depending on how I felt. Also, might finger prick in case I was lower

take it easy, the more you keep (fast) burning energy the lower your BS will get... Sit down; take your time to rest, let your body recover and never leave home witout some extra carbs in your backpack.

When I hike is the only time I drink normal Gatorade or Powerade. About 250ml every 30 mins keeps my BGL in check. I always have my finger sticks, glucose tablets, jelly beans, some carb snacks, my phone, and my medical bracelet with me. And always let my family know where I am going, and share my location with my wife via the phone when out hiking by myself. I also have a banana and some fruit juice before I start to pre-load some carbs.

Hope I still had some glucose with me. Have run out more than once. If I have no glucose, rest a bit before proceeding.

Suspend delivery on my insulin pump; take blood glucose test; then chew glucose tabs or other sugar sources and drink water from water bottle. Hopefully I am prepared!

Personally for myself glucose when in doubt what to do. At 97 and dropping with that level of exercise I would expect to continue down. I can tolerate highs much easier than lows. So I would not want to risk a low in this situation.

Something fast like glucose gel but… I might wait for another 5 minutes. Hate treating lows during a hike cause as soon as it’s over I’m usually going to rise.

Did you stop, have glucose tabs and wait? Or just the glucose tabs abs keep moving?
