looks like the only issue is the general older version issue of you can't stack slabs

Mojang should have kept the Dirt Slab in the game, but removed it from World Generation (where Notch was having issues with implementing it correctly). This way we could have used it for building and terraforming, but they wouldn't have needed to muck around too much with the game code.

My guess is that it was removed as to not clog inventories with slabs when you want full blocks, plus the blocky vibe is more apparent without halfway blocks scattered everywhere
