Swatch (!) and consider adding extra rows to your i-cord. Stockinette stitches are rectangular. Compared to the stockinette it is being applied to the i-cord (also stockinette but perpendicular) will need an extra row about every 4th stitch. This will keep your work flat and avoid at least this particular heartache.
