Hello everyone! My name is Steven Vuu and I am a categorical
And just like that, five years have passed. On July 1st, 2019, I moved to Florida after medical school to start my general surgery residency, and this past Friday, June 21st, I officially graduated. I am a surgeon!!
I am very grateful for the support of my family: my parents, my wife, and my newborn daughter. Thank you to all the attending surgeons who dedicated their time and commitment to teach me, shaping me into the surgeon I am today. Thank you to my co-residents and hospital staff who I befriended along the way helping make the time pass by a little quicker. I will miss you and cherish the memories.
I am honored and humbled to have received three awards on my graduation night:
Edward M. Copeland Award: Presented to the chief resident who exemplifies the best qualities of being a surgeon.
Resident Teaching Award: Given to the resident who demonstrates excellence and commitment to teaching residents, students, and staff.
Rosemurgy Research Award: Awarded to the resident with the most accomplished scholarly activity.
Not too long before he passed away earlier this year, I had the honor and privilege of caring for Dr. Copeland at the hospital. Receiving the Copeland Award in his memory makes that much more special. Thank you for your wisdom and rest in peace, Dr. Copeland.
Keep studying hard you guys. Hard work pays off!! Wishing you all the best in your studies ๐ช๐ช
Thank you so much for the support on the Dr. High Yield Step 2 CK Books. I am so happy that I could help medical students around the world to prepare and do well on their exams. Never in my wildest dreams did I think that the videos and books would be this useful. Study hard and enjoy the ride! Medical school is a tough journey but it all pays off in the end once you get into the specialty of your dreams.

The books are designed to accompany the videos, but have much more detail, and they are numbered for rapid review of the material which is especially useful once you have already been familiar with the core material. I used these notes and read through them multiple times on the week leading up to Step 2 CK and scored a 268. Happy studying!

This past weekend there was a man who unfortunately passed away from a head injury. With his generosity, he donated his organs to those in need. We flew from San Antonio to Houston and back within an afternoon to retrieve the organ and were able to successfully transplant a liver for a woman with primary biliary cirrhosis. The surgery went very well and she is recovering. She now has a second chance at life. A happy motherโs day weekend for her. It is a privilege and honor to help people. ๐โค๏ธ
Southeastern Surgical Congress, Nashville 2022 ๐ฅโ
Surgery residency has its ups and downs. We work long hours and it can be exhausting to work on research papers when you get home. But the past few weeks have reminded me that hard work sometimes pays off. I went to Nashville to present my research at the Southeastern Surgical Congress, one of the biggest surgical conferences in the southeastern USA.
It was a bit surreal presenting my research in front of well known surgeons in the field and colleagues from prestigious programs. I just wanted to represent my program well and not embarrass us ๐
. Being able to enjoy Nashville with my co-residents was such a treat but on top of that being awarded a gold medal for my research was the icing on the cake.
Nashville is a great city, tons of culture and awesome live music. The chicken wings were definitely spicy as advertised and Top Golf was sweet. Canโt wait to head back!!
It was an honor to have had the opportunity to represent my program and share my clinical research at this yearโs Academic Surgical Congress 2022 in Orlando. Itโs been a crazy week, finished my surgery board exam this past weekend and got to spend some quality time with visiting family. ๐ #asc2022
Hope everyone is having a great week! Hereโs me about to operate with my attending ๐ฌ 2 thumbs up, ready to cut!
Hello everyone! My name is Steven Vuu and I am a categorical surgery resident at UCF. A little about me: I graduated from Ross University School of Medicine in the top 5% of my class with highest honors. I was a Dean's Honor Roll and Dean's List student in all 4 years and scored 250s and 260s on my Step 1 and 2 CK exams. My Step 2 CK score was ~95th Percentile. I was a head TA at my school, and personally tutored ~30 students each week in a classroom, and noticed that I helped many of my classmates increase their scores, so I would like to continue the tradition. Before that, I graduated from The University of British Columbia in Vancouver, BC, Canada with a bachelor degree in Science.
