Hi, I'm a sleep scientist and engineer with a PhD in brain signal processing for pattern classification and functional mapping. As a research fellow at Harvard Medical School, I studied neural oscilllatory mechanisms of memory processing during sleep using rare recordings of the human hippocampus (intracranial EEG). In addition to using machine learning to design classifiers that can stage sleep and detect (infer) hippocampal activity from noninvasive scalp EEG, I’m interested in biofidelic neural networks that mimic sleep-dependent memory processes to improve their performance — Artificial Intelligence that “sleeps”! Examples of recent, ongoing projects include (1) implementing a real-time sleep stage classifier with closed-loop noninvasive brain stimulation capabilities, and (2) implementing sleep processes in artificial neural networks to make AI smarter and more robust.
My neighbors will tell you I'm avid musician (trumpets and brass) in my free time.
