CHAPTER 1
THE ASHES OF FLAMES
Blaze knew why her mother had summoned her to the royal courtyard. Being empress of the Umbreon region was not easy, but having a daughter who did not care about tradition made it worse. For the fourth time this week, Blaze entered the Umber tribe courtyard, and saw her mother, Empress Wildfire staring intently at a cherry blossom tree, planted in remembrance of her father, Flame, who had died in the Vardoon war, loyal to the Queen.
âYouâre late.â Wildfire said, not taking her gaze off the cherry tree. Blaze frankly did not care if she was late or not, but she wanted to make sure that her mother gave her a smaller punishment. âSorry, Mother.â She replied. Wildfire sighed and drew her gaze from the tree to her daughter, her beedy orange eyes staring into her soul. âYou need to be more punctual if you want to take my place as Empress one day. The Umber tribe needs a true leader!â Blaze had gotten used to her motherâs lectures and knew how to survive the boredom of them. But this time, Blaze was listening, because she had heard something that would change her life forever. âYour younger sister Spark has shown more loyalty than you, and the Vardoon have been very generous to us. I should just give the throne to your sister.â Wildfire had finished and turned back to the cherry tree, leaving Blaze to try and figure out what her mother had just said. Her mother would never use the word âLoyaltyâ, it reminded her too much of Flames âloyaltyâ to the Queen. And she hated the word âVardoonâ so much that she has set the death penalty for anyone who says it! But here she was, saying it like it was the name of her pet Kitsune. And she said she would give the throne to her sister? Now that was too good to be true. Spark had wanted to be Empress ever since she was three, and Blaze had never wanted to be Empress in her entire life! Blaze knew exactly what to say to her mother. Wildfire loved seeing Blaze depressed and suffering, but by figuring that out, Blaze had mastered the art of acting. âI understand, Mother.â She put a tremble in her voice and stared at the ground. âThere is nothing I can do except swear the Umbreon oath.â Her mother seemed satisfied. âGood. Now go to your room.â Wildfire said coldly and Blaze was surprised at how short this summoning was. âOf course, mother.â Blaze turned to leave, but just when she was about to exit, she heard her mother call out, âBlaze, wait.â Blaze stopped in her tracks. Did she know that she was faking? âIf you see your sister, tell her I wish to speak to her.â Blaze sighed in relief and replied, âYes, I will.â She hurried out of the courtyard and no sooner had she stepped foot in the pathway, she saw some recognizable dirty blond hair. âHi Spark!â she called.
âBlaze! Hi!â Her younger sister hurried over to her, beaming. âHow are you?â she asked. Blaze laughed and replied, âJust went through another one of Mother's lectures, Iâm fine.â Spark giggled. Blaze loved making her sister laugh, it made her happy on the inside as well as the outside. âMother wishes to speak to you,â Blaze informed her. âShe cares so much about you.â Spark smiled and replied, âOk, thanks for letting me know.â Blaze sighed and said âNo problem.â She hesidentally added, âHave a nice time.â Before scurrying off to her room. She heard Spark call out âThanks! See you around!â before she ran into the courtyard.
Beaming with happiness, Blaze opened the oak door leading to her bedroom, stroking the oak frames as she closed the door. âSpark cares so much about me!â Blaze thought, smiling. âShe can find happiness in the darkest of times,â She let a flame of fire flicker from her palm. âUnlike me, who can only find disaster.â She let an ash cloud put out the flame. The Empress and her daughters could create fire and put out fires, but only Blaze would choose to put out fires. âWhat should I do?â Blaze pondered. She had forgotten how boring her room was, her mother had made sure of that. There was only a bed, a wardrobe and a set of drawers, the top one having a list of things to do when bored. Blaze took out the paper and read:

The distant kingdoms? Blaze was confused as to why she had written that in the first place. Firstly, it was illegal to travel to the other kingdoms without permission from the Vardoon Leader, which was very hard to do. Secondly, she would have to leave Spark and Flareia, her Kitsune pet. Blaze stared out the window. The sun was setting and she knew she had to go to bed otherwise her mother would be furious. While getting her pajamas out of her wardrobe, she started wondering why her mother was so strict with her to begin with. But she did not have much time to think about that when she thought of something her brain shouldnât allow.
Why did the Vardoon take over Galapeth to begin with?
As her eyes fell heavy, she kept repeating that in her head. Slowly, she drifted off to sleep.
Heat surrounded her as she gained consciousness. Blaze didnât dare open her eyes for fear that she would burn. But wait! She couldnât burn! She slowly opened her eyes and was shocked by what she saw. There was the Queen, blinded and tied up and- âOh noâŠâ Blaze shuddered. âThe Vardoon Leader!â
Blaze had hundreds of questions. How was she here? How in the world of Galapeth was THE QUEEN STILL ALIVE?!? And where was she? The Vardoon Leader strutted up to the Queen, who was as still as stone, took off her blinder, and stepped back looking at her as if she were a piece of artwork. Suddenly a dragon, red and yellow prowled straight through her! âWhat the-â Blaze wondered out loud, then quickly covered her mouth, and hoped that the Vardoon Leader did not hear. But they just kept on going as if she was not there. âI guess I canât be seen.â She told herself. There was a long silence and then. âWell, well, well. If it isnât Ruby.â Woah! Creepy. She now knew the Queenâs name, Ruby, which Blaze thought described her perfectly. That was confusing, though. The Vardoon Leader said âRubyâ in a way that confused her, and what the Vardoon Leader said afterward was unbelievable. âMy favorite sister.â Sister?!? No way. Sister?!? That was just unbelievable. The Vardoon Leader was the Queenâs sister? Why would he do that? Blaze had so many questions but none of them could be answered. âStop all this mischief, Carnelian!â The Queen shouted. Ok, this was getting out of hand. So Carnelian was the name of the Vardoon Leader? And they called each other by their first names? Kinda creepy. Blaze was wrapping her head around all of the information that came flooding her mind. The Queen/Ruby and the Vardoon Leader/Carnelian were related, and Blaze could tell they did not like each other. Carnelian chuckled. âCareful with that language, or I will need to tie you up.â Ruby scowled and shouted so loud it made Blaze jump. âDo it then! I wonât share anything!â Carnelian did not find this threatening at all, in fact, he merely laughed. âOh, but you will. Destruction? If you may.â The Dragon roared and a blinding flash of blue light shot towards the Queen. Blaze gasped in horror and stared intently at what happened next. The Queen slowly closed her eyes, then, a moment later, opened them and they were as black as coal, with a sliver of them white as snow. Blaze screamed, remembering that Ruby and Carnelian could no longer hear her, then shouted, âWhat happened to her?â The Queen stood there, like a lifeless form and Carnelian smiled smugly. He questioned, âWhat did you do with the power gem?â Blaze at first thought that once again, Ruby would not answer, but to her surprise, the Queen replied in a monotone voice âI split it in four, and sent the pieces across Galapethâ Blaze was stunned. The Dragon must have done something to her! Ruby seemed to be a mindless zombie, answering, and even doing anything Carnelian told her to do. âSheâs under his control. The Queen canât protect herself anymore!â Blaze thought, terrified. Carnelian chuckled and asked Ruby another question. âWhich gem piece is closest to us?â Ruby replied in her monotone voice, âThe Gem of Earth, located in Leafrail.â Carnelian swirled around to face the Dragon. âDestruction, ready my armies! We will be going to Leafrail!â The Dragon nodded and headed toward Blaze, and she had to move out of the way to get past the horrible feeling of something going through her. Carnelian turned back toward the Queen. âAs for you, Sister, go back to the dungeons, I will retrieve you when I am ready.â As Ruby mumbled a âYes, Masterâ Blaze had her worries. âWhat should I do?â She thought. Her brain had so many ideas she couldnât find one to settle with. She finally decided, âI will go to Leafrail and get the Gem of Earth before them.â Suddenly, Blaze fell into darkness.
Blaze jerked up. She was in her bed, in her room. As she got up, she thought that dream was so real, too real. She got dressed and headed to her wardrobe. Blaze took out a yellow and magenta sword, (a project she had been working on when she was SUPER bored) and put it in her Backpack. Taking a deep breath, she launched herself out of the window and landed safely on the grass. As she saw the sunâs amber glow as it rose from the sky, she knew this was the start of a new adventure.

Ok, I know how some top-tier YouTubers would make an appreciation post at 1,000,000 or even 10,000,000 sub count. But me? Iâm just happy that 30 people watch my videos. And for that, I will forever be grateful for. Thank you all so much!

Just letting you know, I have an almost non-existent posting pattern, so there could be times with nothing for a few months, then 5 vids in the course of a week, soo..
