An uplifting and powerful Rosh Chodesh Elul prayer this morning at Hostage Square in Tel Aviv.
May the month of Elul bring blessings to salvation with it.
Here are some of the Jewish customs for this special month:
- Each day (except Shabbat), a ramâs horn (shofar) is blown after the morning services. Itâs a wake-up call to spiritually prepare for Rosh Hashanah.
- When writing a letter, we sign off, âMay you be inscribed and sealed for a good year.â
- We add chapter 27 of Psalms to the morning and afternoon daily prayers.
- The Baal Shem Tov began a custom of saying three additional chapters of Psalms, sequentially, each day from the first of Elul until Yom Kippurâwhen the remainder of Psalms is completed.
- This is a good time to have your tefillin and mezuzot inspected by a scribe to ensure that they are still in good condition.

The entire JLI familyâemployees, instructors, and students worldwideâmourn the tragic, untimely loss of Mrs. Miriam Mintz, the beloved wife of Rabbi Mendel Mintz, cherished daughter of Rabbi Gershon and Mrs. Elisheva Fink, and daughter-in-law of our directors, Rabbi Efraim and Mrs. Shaina Basha Mintz.
A longtime teacher at Baltimoreâs Talmudical Academy, she inspired, educated, and uplifted thousands of students. Alongside her husband, she was recently appointed Chabadâs emissary in neighboring Pasadena and Glen Burnie, Maryland.
May her memory stand as a source of blessing and inspiration, and may her light continue to shine.
