The last day already of the North Sea Jazz Festival, time for our grand finale: BUDDY RICH, in his days often announced as "worlds greatest drummer" was at NSJ on this day 46 years ago with his big band, and they played: Big Swing Face
On this 2nd day of the dutch North Sea Jazz Festival it's 39 years ago that MILES DAVIS and his septet, performed Human Nature at this festival, from the famous album "you're under arrest".
Today is the first day of the dutch North Sea Jazz festival, and on this day 44 years ago the festival featured the STANLEY CLARKE BAND. Stanley (1951), famous for playing handmade Alembic bassguitars and the piccolo bassguitar returned to the festival in 2018.
HAPPY SUMMER: as promised, we started to upload two clips a week in july, on tuesday and friday. Last tuesday we released the clip "love will keep us together" from one of the most versatile jazz artists ever. Mel Tormé. Footage from a concert he gave in the dutch tv-programme "Music all in" in 1976.

CONGRATS TO: Montgomery Bernard "Monty" Alexander, today the great pianoplayer was born 80 (!) years ago in Kingston, Jamaica. In 1979 he visited The Hague, where he had a great show at the North Sea Jazzfestival.
IN THE SPOTLIGHT: One of Ella Fitzgerald's most famous songs, "Mr. Paganini", brought in a very swinging version bij the dutch group "The Deep River Quartet". 'Cause if you can't sing it... you simply have to swing it!
The first jazzconcert recorded and broadcast by AVRO radio was Duke Ellington as far back as 1933. The Jazz At The Philharmonic concerts, organized by Norman Granz, came to Holland’s concert halls in 1952 and were regularly broadcast by AVRO Television since 1958. They featured jazz giants like Lionel Hampton, Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald and Oscar Peterson.
The JATP concerts, the Newport Jazz Festivals and the North Sea Jazz Festivals recorded and broadcast by AVRO TV are featured on this World of Jazz Channel, as well as various TROS TV recordings such as TROS Sesjun.
AVROTROS is a Dutch radio and television broadcaster, founded in 2014 from a merger of AVRO and TROS. From January 1st, 2014 the name of the merged broadcaster was used in joint programmes. AVRO was founded in 1923 as the Netherlands first public broadcaster.
TROS started broadcasting in 1964.
