I've known this song by heart for ages, although I don't speak Finnish. But the haunting vocals of Marco and this otherworldly melody have always been moving me, and singing this song came out very natural for me.

The song ’To No One I Owe’ was born out of Sofia Yablonska's profound statement, 'I have nothing, I owe nothing.' This sentiment of a free wandering spirit, finding solace on the open road, forms the core theme of 'To No One I Owe'. During a time when it was deemed unacceptable for a Ukrainian woman to venture far from home, refusing to fulfill the traditional role of nurturing a family, her audacious choice both intrigued and fascinated countless women in her homeland.
In this song, Yablonska narrates the contrasting perceptions people hold about her journey and expeditions: she is labeled as a dreamer and a traitor, an idol and a stranger, a voyager and a selfish freak. Wherever she her travels brought her, the locals encouraged her to settle down, but her nature of a vagabond kept pushing her forward, regardless of her affection to people or the place.
Interestingly, some individuals treated her as a spectacle, presenting her as an exotic marvel from Ukraine to entertain their guests. To further emphasize her origins and perhaps her resolute determination, I decided to incorporate a few lines in Ukrainian. Within the song, she declares, 'When the sun rises, do not hold me back if you wish to see me again…
