Nerd flex. I just got a new beater atlas (the Goode's 23rd edition) and rearranged the furniture in the basement studio. I thought I'd show off the collection. The red atlases are state gazetteers. I've got one for 21 states. I'm thinking about doing a review/ranking of the world atlases since you usually don't get the chance to see these atlases being flipped through and analyzed in detail. If you buy one online you may not know how they look inside. You don't want to choose the wrong one since they are not cheap.

Heatwave in the west? Don't tell the people of Monterey, CA. Because of its geography, it's almost heatwave-proof and always one of the coolest places in the west during summer. But inland just over the coastal mountains in the Central Valley, you get to Kettleman City, with an incredibly different forecast.

I'm still in the middle of a crazy back-to-back-to-back series of trips. I'm working on the next video that will be uploaded Monday. It'll be about the current situation of a much-maligned city.

Fog beginning to form on the beach in the morning at Heceta Beach, OR. My wife had to be in Spokane, WA for a wedding and I'm visiting family in California. This is a perfect halfway spot for us to meet back up. The Oregon coast is beautiful, all beaches are public, and there are no big towns along the entire coast. But it's not that warm. Bring a sweatshirt.

A map of the multiple train systems in and around Frankfurt, Germany. Good luck.

This is the small town of Bad Tolz in rural Bavaria. It's about a 45 minute train ride south of Munich, heading towards the Alps and about 10 miles north of the border with Austria. The Isar River flows through the town and eventually flows through Munich as well. This is a really nice town and a great way to see authentic rural Germany. We visited for the day while in Munich, and it's definitely worth a day trip.

My wife and I are currently in the middle of a five day visit of Copenhagen, Denmark, enjoying the 17 hours of sunlight one month before the solstice. We're off to Munich and Frankfurt, Germany after that. I'm working on a video on Copenhagen, but my laptop bricked while here and I won't be able to upload until we get back. It may end up being 3 weeks between the last video and the next. In the meantime, I'll post photos of Denmark and Germany on my Instagram page if you're interested.

My wife and I are currently visiting a mainland European capital, very much enjoying the city before we head to Frankfurt, Germany to visit some of her family (we're not in Berlin). I've been filming on-site for a city profile video on this city that should be up soon-ish. This image is of a painting of a globe on the ground in the city that clearly gives away where we're at.

Today is Record Store Day. If you're going to participate in the festivities you might as well buy a couch also. New video coming up later today.
