200,000 subscribers (and a bagel pretending to be the number two)! Since 100K I've explored America, met some incredible people, and almost finished a Master's degree in space systems engineering!

I’ve really enjoyed taking a closer look at the engineering behind the everyday world – from copper refining and underwater tunneling to cheese making and weather-predicting leeches. Huge thanks to everyone who helped me to share this with the world!

In late 2022 I experimented with adverts (ahoy there Captain Sail-out!) and the TikTok / #shorts format. While they may not have always worked out as intended, they made for some excellent learning experiences.

It’s been a while since I actually built things for videos, but having invested in some tools (and a large collection of bandages) it looks like I’ll be back to building props and blowing things up.

See you all in the next episode!

So how did we pull off the skiing shot? A drone? Flywire? Really good backward-skiing cameraman? Actually, a 360 camera and inordinate amount of post-processing, someone please remind me to just use a tripod next time.

We're back with a new season of Atomic Frontier! In Ep. 1 (out now) I finally got to put my years of fluid dynamics study to good use while climbing an actual NYC Skyscraper! Lots more episodes coming (roughly) every two weeks!

Wow!! 100,000 subscribers (and a cake representing how old I feel everytime someone mentions TikTok)!! Thanks to everyone who has gotten us this far.

Life (and channel) update: Next month I'm shipping up to Boston USA to begin a Masters degree in Space Engineering from MIT! There are still some videos I'm working on here in Perth (including an awesome SCUBA episode sponsored by our Patrons) but get ready for a shift to more US-based topics.
If you've got any cool things I can come visit (and potentially make a video on) within Massachusetts or east coast USA then please let me know over at [email protected]

So happy to hit the big 100K and even happier that I got to celebrate with my Perth friends and crew before heading stateside. See you all in the next episode (it's really cool, it has rockets, you'll love it).

The most fun I've had so far: launching real rocket emojis! https://youtu.be/9Pn0rHTpwvo . See if you can spot all the easter eggs, there's a big one no one has found yet!

Single-shot episodes like the one in our most recent documentary look awesome, but take a surprisingly large amount of attempts to get right. Congrats to "rutger dobbelaere" for guessing closest to the actual amount of tries it took us - 52 takes (rutger guessed 42)!

Like in the 'Sea Monsters' single-shot episode, the original plan was to stick with one location but soon realised this was the perfect opportunity to show off some of Perth's landscapes. We had to reshoot the Secret Garden scene three times to get the light looking right, while the beach scene was shot twice so we could get a more dramatic-looking location (originally it was filmed directly on the beach). Breakdown is 19 Garden, 13 Pinnacles, and 20 Beach attempts.

If you haven't seen it already (or just want to rewatch those *smooth* transitions) then check out the video here (https://youtu.be/9QhpE7JtxQE). It's in 4K 50fps, so if you watched it on your phone last time, then check it out on a proper screen this time for the full experience!
