Announcing a series of live streamed talks on 'The Buddha's Middle Way' by Robert M Ellis! These are based on his book of that name, published by Equinox, which offers a new view of the Buddha oriented towards the Middle Way rather than towards Enlightenment. The Middle Way is not a Buddhist monopoly, but a universal principle - but nevertheless the Buddha can be a source of inspiration in following it. This series of 7 talks will take place every Sunday evening (UK time) at 7pm, from 2nd May to 13th June 2021. Robert will answer questions at the end of the talk, which should take about an hour altogether..
Here is the schedule for the talks:
2nd May: The Buddha's Early Life
7th May: The Middle Way versus Enlightenment
16th May: The Buddha's Ministry
23rd May: Problems with the Buddhist Interpretation of the Middle Way
30th May: The Eightfold Path and Middle Way Practice
6th June: Craving, Karma and Conditionality
13th June: The Buddha as an Archetype
The Middle Way Society is an international group, first founded in the UK, for the study, promotion and practice of the Middle Way. We see the Middle Way as a practical principle of judgement, not a metaphysical belief.
The aims of the society are as follows:
1. To investigate and promote the Middle Way as a practical and moral philosophy of universal applicability, independent of any appeal to traditional authority and avoiding metaphysical dogma, whether positive or negative.
2. To support all forms of integrative practice that address conditions in a way compatible with the Middle Way. These typically include meditation, critical thinking and the arts.
To further these aims, we run regular retreats and Skype-based discussion groups. Our website features regular blogs, book reviews, a discussion forum, and a web-based introductory course. Please visit www.middlewaysociety.org, where you can join the society or subscribe to our regular newsletters.
