BEFORE YOU BUY A 2023 PLANNER

Do you have a habit of starting a planner, using it for a week or two, and then never touching it again?

Only to buy yet *another* planner or start using a new app and repeat the process?

Are you a Neurodivergent Spoonie?

MYTH: You aren't using this planner/system/app because it's not the "right" one for you.

Could a different planner, system, or app be better for how your brain works? Yes. Definitely. I'm not disputing that.

But I bet this is ALSO happening:

- If you find yourself constantly overhauling or replacing your existing system, it's less likely that the system doesn't work for you, and more likely that you're simply AVOIDING THE THINGS YOU NEED OR WANT TO DO.

- You're coping with that discomfort by procrasti-planning, which is a way to fool ourselves into thinking we're making progress when we're actually spinning our wheels.

- BONUS TIDBIT: Additionally, if you find yourself constantly overhauling or replacing your existing system, it's possible that you’re seeking dopamine, and/or trying to address object permanence issues (new and novel things are easier to remember they exist for a time). Both of these are solvable problems when addressed directly.

So what do you do about it?

First you need to accept the fact that a planner, system, or app is only a MEANS TO AN END. Finding or building one that works for you and how your brain works is definitely important.

But more important?

1. You need to consistently keep your planner up to date so you can trust it, otherwise you'll be depending on your brain to store important information, and you'll no longer trust your planner (which is another reason why planners go unused - because they're not actually USED AND MAINTAINED CONSISTENTLY ENOUGH TO BE TRUSTED).

2. You need a system to help you ACTUALLY DO YOUR WORK instead of avoiding it through procrasti-planning or other coping strategies.

Mindset shifts like these are are just some of the ways that a client of mine went from depressed and endlessly behind on work (and the deep shame that comes with that) to working effectively and, more importantly, developing compassion for herself, in only 5 months. Her family is so grateful that she finally got the help she so desperately needed.

P.S. ASKING FOR HELP! Are you struggling with consistency and productivity? I’m looking to interview Neurodivergent Spoonies who are done feeling like a failure and a burden and want to master themselves and their time in a compassionate way. Working on a BIG UPDATE for my coaching program, and the research interviews I did a year ago were a huge help, so I'm looking to do it again. It would mean the world to me if we could hop on a quick call and I could ask you a few questions. OR if you know of someone who fits this description, please tag them below or introduce me. (For real, these aren't sales calls, simply research interviews.)

Use this link to grab a spot on my research call calendar. And thanks! πŸ’– app.acuityscheduling.com/schedule.php?owner=161615…
