Just a reminder, I have a playlist of voice only versions of my sleep stories (no rain, SFX or music). Currently the playlist has about 400 of my stories available and each time you've allowed a new album of my stories on the platform I add them as well (currently I think there are two old albums YouTube has never accepted for their platform and there are two albums of stories I've not yet shared). You can always listen to these in this playlist or create your own custom playlist of your favourite stories...

My most popular sleep story is back - Were you one of those OG people who wanted me to change my channel to a sleep stories channel because of this story?

This is the story that made this channel what it is. When I released the original Dragon's Fire Sleep Stories (initially in episodes from 2016-2017 and then the full compilation in 2018) my channel was focused on mental health and autism (and had been since 2007). The original Dragon's Fire sleep story has over 700k views. The full story was a 2h48m long story. I have now created an calm-reading audiobook version of the novel which is over 7 hours long.

Before turning my channel into a sleep stories channel in 2019, as part of supporting mental health I occasionally made therapeutic sleep stories and this one really resonated with people and took off. It was from this point most people started watching my channel for sleep stories and not my regular content educating therapists about effectively working in mental health and with families, self-help content and educating about autism.

Every week I had comments across my videos telling me to stop making the content my channel was focused on and just focus on making more sleep stories like Dragon's Fire. When I asked my community in early 2020 whether they wanted me to create an illustrated novel version of Dragon's Fire, that would be longer than the sleep story and give more depth to the story than I had ad-libbed when making the original, there was overwhelming excitement and positivity, really wanting this and looking forward to revisiting the Dragon's Fire fantasy world and asking if I can set up a Kickstarter to support the project (I never ended up doing this, mainly out of fear of failing to deliver on time and people being annoyed).

I spent months slowly manually transcribing the original sleep story (it would have been so much easier with AI transcription nowadays!), then worked out how many pages the novel will likely end up being so that I could see what scenes I would like to have illustrations of so that there would be evenly spaced illustrations throughout the novel.

I then found a graphic novel artist and for almost two years, worked with them on creating the artwork for the novel, while putting hundreds of hours into writing the novel, to try to make sure that I would finish writing the novel by the time the artwork was completed.

Every month or so I shared updates here on my channel, including clips of the various images, seeing whether people could guess the scenes the images were from. In the middle of last year, 3 years after announcing that I was working on this project I finally had a print copy of the book in my hand and proudly shared it with you all here.

I had taken so much time and mental energy that I needed to take a break from the project for a while. I have now finally taken the time to create the audiobook version, read in the calm way I read my sleep stories. This itself was also something which took a lot of hours, to read the whole thing, edit all of the audio, create the video, etc. But I am so happy to finally be able to share it with you. I initially shared it a couple of weeks ago on my other channel, testing whether that would be a better place for me to share it, but it seemed not. So I removed it from that channel and have shared it here.

This was the longest, most difficult, most expensive, most mentally draining project I've ever worked on and probably one of the projects I'm most proud of, so I really hope that you enjoy it as much, if not more, than you enjoyed the OG Dragon's Fire Sleep Story...

Thank you for your continued support, it really means so much to me and is what keeps me going when I'm working on projects like this that I'm doing for you. Just knowing that I'm doing something you want and knowing that I'm doing something which you will hopefully find is helpful and brings you enjoyment. Without your support, none of this content would exist...

This weeks sleep story is something a little different. It still guides you through a relaxing first person experience on a quest as I do in most of my other stories, however, the difference is that usually I set my stories in my own worlds, this one is set in the world of Fallout... I hope you enjoy this as you drift peacefully asleep into Slumberland... https://youtu.be/RHSPTl7ZhmI

For those interested in being kept updated - over on Patreon I now do an 'unwind for the weekend' reading that I share on Friday's. Most content I post are original stories that I create. I have tried reading content on this channel, like Norse Mythology, Greek Mythology, Sherlock Holmes, Fairy Tales, Frankenstein, etc., but there has never been much interest on the channel for me to do anything other than my own original content, so this is something I'm testing out on Patreon.

If it seems to be popular I will continue to do this additional content (so Patrons currently get early access every Monday to sleep stories, a Patreon exclusive sleep story on the 1st of each month, now a reading to unwind for the weekend every Friday and additional content at times, as well as being able to suggest ideas in the Suggest Sleep Story Ideas community section on Patreon which can end up used within the original sleep stories that I create - All sleep stories are audio-only versions with no SFX or music (when I make full SFX versions for YouTube, these versions plus the voice-only versions are shared on Patreon), they are also downloadable and can be listened to with Podcast apps, so you can listen with black screen, no ads, curate your own playlists, etc., listen in your preferred app and listen offline).

The story begins in a Michigan saloon when a woman with an incurable brain "abscess" calls on the help of a hypnotist. He hypnotises and cures her. She states a wish to use hypnosis to psychically visit Mars and begins to write down the story of what she experiences, which then becomes this novel.

This is a rare novel. Apparently only about 100 copies were produced. I've not been able to find out much information about this rare novel or its author, although from reading the preface, the hypnosis is very accurate in how it is described and portrayed and it feels like this could be what it says it is, which is a hypnotist visiting a woman, who then in hypnosis writes the story. The names at this point in the novel are anonymised, just using the surname initial, and the hypnotist is just Mr B. Which could be Burbank?

I don't know for sure, maybe Leone Clark Burbank did a lot of research on hypnosis, or watched a hypnotist work and recorded what they said and how they behaved, or had a hypnotist help him, but it does read like he could be the hypnotist who worked with a woman, perhaps helped her, but at least then had the woman write the fantasy story (which she might have thought was an actual experience of projecting her consciousness elsewhere - the same way people feel that they are actually experiencing past lives etc.). This might also explain why the preface and the main story (which you will hear the beginning of next week) feel like they could be written largely by two different people, at least what it feels to me reading it...

The idea of these stories is that they are often me reading from an actual book and so have sounds and pacing associated with that, like pausing for page turns, the sounds of page turns, and they are minimally edited, so not so perfect as my sleep stories where I try to edit out all imperfections. These are more like I am just reading you a story as you would hear it if we were sat in the same room.

As this is part one of me reading this story it is made available to free and paid Patreon subscribers to listen to, whereas the rest of the story will just be available for the Top Slumberland Fan tier subscribers.
