Turned a new leaf into another chapter! 3x20 = now I’m 60 and what a magnificent birthday it’s been! I’m really happy and slightly terrified to announce that I have written a book. We had an idea a while ago to make a collection of the songs made over the years, asking some of the favourite divine women of our time to record their own versions of these pieces. Manchild is like a song baby that I keep close to my chest because it was defining; bringing life to certain sonic threads that carried us through to so many new inventions. But the truth is you don’t own a song. Sia taking this song and making it hers is, to be honest, a most beautiful gift. Manchild is not an easy tune to get right and, of course, she nailed it!! 🎀
Sia is family - a powerhouse goddess. We watched over her when she was fresh into London from Oz as a youngun’ & look at how she blossomed!! In fact Sia was the first person that ever gave me Reiki 🙏🏽 i'm so thankful to her for joining in on this journey and hope you all enjoy this new version as much as I do 💝
As I've no doubt said many times, I’m not really into nostalgia but the journey of history is really important. I'm so thankful to @TheFaceMagazine & Jess Kohl for putting this together and to all the innovators who contributed to it: Dick, Robyn, Zadie, Honey and all the brilliant people behind the scenes who have helped create this wonderful short film. I love that I could write an essay with all the things I could say about @robyn and I love that she leaves me speechless at the same time. Her talent is soulful because she leads with her heart and spirit, ever present with honest intensity in her offerings which leave me blubbering with hairs standing erect on my arms and legs, dancing on my own, talking to myself with a feeling that everything is going to be alright.
The first time I saw Robyn live in Stockholm with my daughter @MabelOfficial (then a young struggling teenager) she only said two things that night "Hej Stockholm" and in a middle of a song she shouted out “MABEL!” Mabel was so happy, I had tears streaming down my cheeks. Robyn gave everything & when she needed a pick me up she ate a banana….
She stole my heart. I’ve known Robyn for 3 decades she is my sister , my friend, my family and my creative inspiration. So to have her doing a new version of a song that has been so important for my life and career is an absolute honour…and with the incredibly talented Dev Hynes and Mapei this is what dreams are made of!
